Park districts must require volunteers to complete an application before beginning volunteer work, including a question about whether they have been convicted of or found to be a child sex offender.

Park districts are prohibited from knowingly engaging volunteers who have been convicted of or found to be a child sex offenders and must terminate any volunteer upon discovery of such a conviction or finding.

A volunteer under 18 years of age may have their parent or legal guardian complete the application on their behalf.

Current volunteers must immediately disclose to the park district if they are convicted of or found to be a child sex offender.

The act defines "volunteer" as an unpaid individual working under direct supervision of park district administrative staff who provides services to recreational programs offered to children.
