State Board of Education establishes academic standards for students subject to state assessments with required public participation and local input opportunities.

Annual assessments required in English language arts and mathematics for grades 3-8 beginning 2014-2015 school year; science assessments at one grade each in grades 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 beginning 2017-2018 school year.

Secondary education students assessed in English language arts and mathematics with no more than 3 assessments per student, one including college and career readiness determination accepted by public higher education institutions.

Students not assessed for college and career readiness cannot receive regular high school diploma unless exempted under specified conditions including individualized education programs, adult education enrollment, or English learner status with less than 12 months U.S. school enrollment.

State Superintendent appoints review committee of up to 21 members to oversee assessment content, design, costs, results, and make recommendations to address assessment concerns.
