IL HB2391

Amends the Election Code to allow schools to voluntarily make school buildings available as polling places upon request from county boards or election commissioners, without charge.

Schools may only consent to serve as polling places if they reasonably believe they can ensure the safety of their students; schools are under no obligation to consent to such requests.

If a school consents to be a polling place after being selected, the school district must make the building available; however, districts are encouraged to close the school or hold a teachers institute on election day with students not in attendance.

Removes the previous requirement that school districts automatically make facilities available as polling places upon request, replacing it with a voluntary consent-based system.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
