Motorcycles must display at least one lighted lamp showing white light visible for 500 feet, or alternatively use modulating high beam headlights (modulation only allowed when lighted lamps are required for other vehicles).

All other motor vehicles must display at least 2 lighted head lamps (one on each side of front) with white, HID, yellow, or amber lights during sunset to sunrise, in poor weather conditions, or when visibility is less than 1000 feet.

On Class II or Class III highways with 2 traffic lanes outside municipalities, motor vehicles of the first division or second division under 8,000 pounds must display daytime running lights or lighted head lamps at all times (violation is a business offense with $100 fine).

Daytime running lights are defined as automatically switching on front lights emitting white, yellow, or amber light when the vehicle moves forward.

All motor vehicles must have tail lamps mounted on left and right rear showing red light visible for 500 feet in reverse direction (motorcycles and truck tractors/road tractors manufactured before January 1, 1968 need only one tail lamp).
