IL HB2472

Abolishes municipal officers electoral boards, township officers electoral boards, and education officers electoral boards in counties with populations under 3,000,000, transferring their duties to county officers electoral boards.

Transfers responsibility for hearing objections to nominations for municipal offices, township officers, and community college district offices to the county officers electoral board of the county where the principal office is located.

Applies the same consolidation of electoral board functions to counties with populations of 3,000,000 or more, with the county officers electoral board handling nominations for school districts, municipalities, townships, and community college districts.

Establishes that if a municipality, township, or community college district spans multiple counties, the county officers electoral board of the county containing the principal office shall have jurisdiction over nomination objections.

Adds a provision requiring county electoral board members who are candidates for the office in question to recuse themselves and be replaced by the county treasurer or sheriff.
