HB2499 Summary

• Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to clarify that Illinois State Toll Highway Authority vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 9,000 pounds or more qualify as authorized emergency vehicles.

• Allows these Toll Highway Authority vehicles identified as Highway Emergency Lane Patrol to use red or white oscillating, rotating, or flashing lights when responding to emergencies or providing motor vehicle assistance.

• Lights on these vehicles shall only be activated when responding to an emergency call, parked at an emergency scene, or engaged in motor vehicle assistance operations.

• Takes effect upon becoming law.
