IL HB2641

Creates the Protection of Individuals with Disabilities in the Criminal Justice System Task Force consisting of 24 members appointed by the Attorney General, Governor, Supreme Court, State Treasurer, Guardianship and Advocacy Commission, and General Assembly leadership within 90 days of enactment.

Task Force membership must include circuit judges, prosecutors, public defenders, disability advocates, police representatives, individuals with disabilities, parents/guardians, and service providers reflecting the state's racial, ethnic, geographic, and disability diversity.

Task Force shall examine issues affecting adults and juveniles with disabilities in the criminal justice system including police interactions, detention, legal representation, communications, disability accommodations, and public safety concerns.

Task Force must meet at least 4 times with the first meeting no later than 120 days after enactment and submit findings and recommendations to the Governor, Attorney General, and General Assembly by March 31, 2018.

Act repeals on June 30, 2018.
