IL HB2742

Amends the Pharmacy Practice Act to require the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to adopt rules governing pharmacy prescription systems, including electronic systems.

Mandates pharmacy prescription systems contain mechanisms to forward prescription discontinuation orders to pharmacies and require patient verification features for automated refills.

Requires automated prescription refill notices to clearly communicate to patients the medication name, dosage strength, and any other information required by the Department regarding automated dispensing and storage systems.

Ensures discontinued medications are not automatically dispensed by pharmacists or automatic refill dispensing systems, whether prescribed through electronic or paper prescriptions.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
