HB2856 Summary

• Adds definition of "kickboxing" to the Boxing and Full-contact Martial Arts Act as a form of boxing in which only punches and kicks are allowed.

• Exempts amateur kickboxing contests sanctioned by nationally recognized organizations (World Association of Kickboxing Organizations USA, KICK International, International Kickboxing Federation, International Sport Karate and Kickboxing Association, and World Kickboxing Association) from Department authorization requirements.

• Removes language restricting full-contact martial arts contests from being conducted in enclosed fighting areas or rings if recognized by the International Olympic Committee or contested in Olympic Games.

• Requires kickboxing contest participants to use at least 10 ounce gloves.

• Takes effect upon becoming law.
