IL HB2951

Amends the Medical Practice Act of 1987 to modify labeling requirements for legend drugs dispensed by licensed physicians.

Removes requirement that physicians maintain a book or file of prescriptions as required under the Pharmacy Practice Act.

Requires physicians dispensing manufacturers' samples or other legend drugs in a maximum 72-hour supply to label them with: proprietary or established drug name, dosage, and quantity of sample given to patient.

Requires physicians to offer patients a written prescription prior to dispensing, allowing patients to choose whether to fill it with the physician or at a licensed pharmacy.

Violations of these requirements constitute grounds for disciplinary action under the Medical Practice Act; bill takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
