HB2997 - Connected Multimodal Mobility Act

• Creates the Connected Multimodal Mobility Act requiring all motor vehicles operating on Illinois highways to be equipped with automatic notification technology by January 1, 2027.

• Defines automatic notification technology as a wireless communication system integrating vehicle location technology that can communicate with other vehicles and traffic-control device networks.

• Requires the Illinois Department of Transportation to install traffic-control device networks on all traffic-control devices in the state by January 1, 2027.

• Mandates that traffic-control device networks communicate with equipped vehicles to alert drivers when they must change speed based on real-time vehicle or pedestrian traffic conditions.

• Directs the Secretary of State and Department of Transportation to adopt rules implementing the act's requirements.
