HB3230 Summary

• Allows county residents to petition for a referendum on whether to apply the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law to non-home rule taxing districts in counties not currently subject to the law.

• Petition must be signed by the greater of 7.5% of registered voters in the governmental unit or 200 registered voters, or 15% of registered voters, whichever is less.

• County clerk certifies valid petitions and submits the question to voters at a general election (excluding consolidated primary elections).

• If a majority of voters approve, the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law becomes applicable to qualifying non-home rule taxing districts beginning January 1 of the following year.

• Effective immediately upon becoming law.
