• Amends the Illinois Municipal Code to allow civil service commissions to provide additional examination opportunities for recently discharged military veterans applying for fire or police positions.

• Applies to persons discharged from active or reserve components of U.S. Armed Forces or National Guard within 6 months before application, with service characterized as honorable or under honorable conditions.

• Additional examinations must occur within a reasonable period after the commission receives the veteran's application.

• For municipalities under Division 2.1, the council or board of trustees may adopt an ordinance to allow these additional examinations for qualifying military applicants.

• Effective immediately upon becoming law.
