Department of Natural Resources shall establish an "Adopt-a-Trail" program allowing volunteer groups to maintain and enhance trails on state-owned land.

Volunteer groups may perform spring cleanups, accessibility projects, special events, trail maintenance and enhancement, public information assistance, or training as designated by the Department.

Volunteer work cannot replace historically performed Department employee duties or reduce employee hours, compensation, or positions; activities must comply with collective bargaining agreements.

Volunteer groups must commit to at least a 2-year participation period, consist of at least 6 people age 18 or older (school and scout organizations may include younger supervised volunteers), and contribute at least 200 service hours over 2 years.

Department shall coordinate the Adopt-a-Trail program with other volunteer programs like the Adopt-a-Park program to ensure efficient and effective volunteer activities in the same areas.
