HB3462 Summary: Pharmacy Practice Amendments

• Removes the Pharmacy Practice Act from automatic sunset repeal on January 1, 2018, and instead places it on the repeal schedule for January 1, 2020, allowing continued regulation of pharmacies and pharmacists.

• Expands pharmacist duties to include administering vaccinations to patients 14 years and older (with prescriber authorization and training) and limited vaccinations (influenza and Tdap) to patients ages 10-13.

• Establishes a Collaborative Pharmaceutical Task Force to study and recommend standards regarding pharmacist working conditions, staffing requirements, prescription filling limits, break periods, and automated dispensing system safety features, with recommendations due by September 1, 2019.

• Changes terminology from "registration" and "certificate of registration" to "licensure" and "license" for pharmacy technicians and pharmacists throughout the Act for consistency.

• Updates administrative procedures including requiring applicants and licensees to provide and maintain valid email addresses of record, allowing electronic applications and communications, and authorizing the Department to issue citations with fines up to $1,000 for violations.
