IL HB3525

Amends the Illinois Highway Code to allow township boards of trustees statewide to submit propositions to abolish road districts (previously limited to Cook County townships only).

Abolishes a road district by operation of law effective January 1 of the year following voter approval if a majority of electors support the proposition.

Transfers all rights, powers, duties, assets, property, liabilities, obligations, and responsibilities of the abolished road district to the township upon abolition.

Terminates the office of any highway commissioner in the abolished road district and authorizes the township board of trustees to assume all taxing authority previously held by the road district.

Permits the township board to contract with the county, municipality, or private contractor to administer roads under its jurisdiction.
