• School boards must develop trauma response protocols to be implemented following traumatic events at schools, including shootings.

• Within 24 hours of a traumatic incident or when law enforcement secures the scene (whichever is first), the nearest hospital must send mental health first responders and offer survivors immediate grief and trauma-based counseling.

• Within 5 calendar days of a traumatic incident, schools must provide trauma intervention services including group counseling and peer-to-peer support, with enhanced services in areas with frequent gun violence.

• School boards must establish agreements with nearby hospitals designating which hospital is in closest proximity to each school.

• School boards must develop community engagement plans and may recruit volunteers from communities experiencing gun violence, partnering with community members, faith-based organizations, and other groups.

• Hospitals are required to establish agreements with school districts for developing trauma response protocols.
