IL HB3846

Allows counties where the county board currently chooses one of its own members as chairman to change to electing the chairman by voter referendum.

Requires a petition signed by 5% of voters who voted in the last general election to trigger a referendum on the ballot at the next general election.

If referendum is approved by majority vote, the county board chairman shall be elected at the following general election and every 4 years thereafter.

Amends the Election Code to recognize "elected Chairman" of the County Board as a county elected officer that appears on general election ballots.

Applies to both counties under Section 2-1003.5 (counties choosing board chairman) and Section 2-4003.5 (counties electing board chairman).
