IL HB4271

Changes the requirement that county authorities "shall" mandate auxiliary deputies be county residents to "may" make it optional for counties to require residency.

Maintains existing provisions that auxiliary deputies cannot supplement regular county police or deputies except in emergencies, and must wear distinct identification symbols.

Requires auxiliary deputies to receive training in weapons and police procedures before duties, with same firearm training as peace officers if carrying firearms.

Allows county boards to set auxiliary deputy compensation up to the lowest hourly pay of full-time sworn officers, plus reimbursement for actual expenses approved by the County Board.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
