Public Act 100-1137 - Lyme Disease Prevention and Protection Act

• Establishes the Lyme Disease Prevention, Detection, and Outreach Program within the Department of Public Health to study tick populations, track human infection cases by county, and publish data in partnership with the University of Illinois.

• Creates a Lyme Disease Task Force with representatives from state agencies, physicians, nurses, veterinarians, and public members to advise on disease prevention, surveillance, education, and diagnosis guidelines.

• Requires the Department to maintain a public webpage with prevention and treatment information, peer-reviewed research, CDC guidance, and educational materials for healthcare professionals.

• Mandates healthcare professionals and laboratories to report acute Lyme disease cases to local health departments and requires the Department to prepare annual reports to the General Assembly.

• Prohibits the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation from disciplining physicians based solely on recommending investigational drugs or prescribing long-term antibiotics for experimental treatment of Lyme disease or other tick-borne diseases.
