IL HB5249

Allows parents or guardians of children with disabilities to enroll their child in a school district where the child was previously enrolled, provided that district is located wholly or partially within the same county as the child's current residence.

Requires the school district where the child currently resides to grant a permit allowing the child to enroll in an out-of-district school within the same county.

Treats children with disabilities enrolled under this provision as pupils of the enrolling school district for purposes of special education reimbursement and evidence-based funding apportionment.

Parents or guardians are responsible for all transportation costs, and neither the resident nor enrolling school district is eligible for transportation reimbursement under state law.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
