IL HB5443

Deletes language from the Illinois Human Rights Act requiring the Department of Human Rights to stay administrative proceedings after a civil action is filed by an aggrieved party under federal or state law regarding an alleged civil rights violation.

Allows the Department to continue its investigation and administrative proceedings even after a complainant files a separate civil action in circuit court or before the Human Rights Commission.

Maintains all other procedural requirements including the 365-day investigation deadline, fact-finding conferences, conciliation efforts, and the complainant's right to file complaints with the Human Rights Commission or in circuit court.

Applies to charges filed on or after the effective date of the bill.
