IL HB5487

Amends the Code of Civil Procedure to establish a tiered interest rate system for civil judgments based on amount and type of damages.

Judgments of $50,000 or less that do not include compensation for bodily injury or death shall draw interest at 2% per annum instead of the current 9%.

Judgments against governmental entities continue to draw interest at 6% per annum.

All other judgments draw interest at 9% per annum.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
