Beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, school boards must post notice on their website and include in student handbooks that students with disabilities who do not qualify for an Individualized Education Program may qualify for services under Section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Special education and related services must be provided in accordance with a student's IEP no later than 10 school attendance days after notice is provided to parents under federal regulations.

School boards must immediately provide written materials and information upon request regarding policies, procedures, and regulations for identification, evaluation, and educational placement of children with disabilities.

Parents or guardians who are deaf or do not speak English are entitled to interpreter services when participating in meetings to develop individualized educational programs.

Students with disabilities cannot be denied promotion, graduation, or a general diploma based on failing a minimal competency test when the failure is directly related to their disabling condition.
