Motor vehicle crashes caused over 33,700 deaths in the United States in 2014, with numerous injuries and emergency room visits resulting from these accidents.

The I-80 corridor between the I-55 exit in Joliet and Route 30 exit in New Lenox experienced 8 fatalities and 1,456 crashes since 2011 due to high congestion rates.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is conducting a study of I-80 from Ridge Road to US Route 30 in preparation for reconstruction, which may not occur for several years.

Urges the Illinois Department of Transportation to erect signage notifying motorists of congestion and possible dangers along the specified I-80 corridor.

Requires copies of this resolution be delivered to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and the Mayor of the City of Joliet.
