Chicago Board of Education voted on May 22, 2013 to close 50 underutilized public schools in the system.

Closed school properties should be repurposed as assets for the city and their communities to strengthen economic activity and opportunity.

The Chicago Public Schools Advisory Committee for School Repurposing and Community Development created guiding principles and a proposed process for quickly repurposing schools in a timely and financially viable manner.

Properties that cannot be repurposed through the Chicago Public School system should be opened to public bidding.

House urges the City of Chicago to begin repurposing closed public schools into new-purpose facilities as soon as possible.
