Acknowledges that women earn approximately 80 cents for every dollar earned by men, with even larger gaps for women of color (African American women earn 63 cents, Latina women earn 54 cents per dollar).

Notes that the wage gap begins within one year after college graduation and has long-term effects on women's economic security, Social Security earnings, retirement savings, and children's education.

References Equal Pay Day, originated in 1996 by the National Committee on Pay Equity, which symbolizes how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year.

Establishes pay equity as essential to eradicating poverty and maintaining a highly-motivated workforce.
