Route 66 was designated in 1926 as America's "Mother Road," connecting Chicago to Los Angeles and creating significant economic activity for communities along its route.

The National Park Service's Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program, established in 1999, will sunset in 2019, eliminating federal coordination and funding for preservation efforts that have leveraged over $4 million in historic preservation investment.

The Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership, a collaborative not-for-profit organization, was established to create a national coordinating structure and advocate for designating Route 66 as a National Historic Trail.

Illinois House urges U.S. Congress to pass H.R. 801 (introduced by U.S. Representative Darin LaHood) to create the Route 66 Historic Trail and ensure continued federal-level focus on preservation and economic development.

Copies of the resolution are to be delivered to all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation and President Donald J. Trump.
