Illinois House mourns the death of Chicago Police Officer Samuel Jimenez, age 28, killed in the line of duty on November 19, 2018 at Mercy Hospital on the South Side.

Officer Jimenez joined the Chicago Police Department in 2017, served his probation, and was assigned to the 2nd Police District (Wentworth) before responding to a shots-fired call at the hospital.

Officer Jimenez ran into gunfire to defend the hospital and protect civilians, consistent with the highest traditions of American policing, and was killed as a result.

The House recognizes that Illinois police officers risk their lives daily for the safety and security of their communities and fellow citizens.

A copy of this resolution will be presented to Crystal Jimenez, Officer Jimenez's wife, as a memorial to his heroism and service to Chicago and Illinois.
