The Illinois House of Representatives commends The Authors Guild for its longstanding service to and advocacy on behalf of authors in Illinois and the United States.

The Authors Guild is the nation's oldest and largest professional organization for writers with over 9,000 members including novelists, historians, journalists, poets, academics, and independently published authors.

Since 1912, The Authors Guild has supported authors' constitutional and moral rights to write and speak freely, provided legal advice on writing profession issues, advocated on copyright and fair contracts, and litigated when authors' rights are threatened.

The organization assists authors in addressing unprecedented challenges from declining writing incomes due to technological changes and corporate pressures in the publishing industry.

A suitable copy of the resolution shall be presented to The Authors Guild as a symbol of respect and esteem.
