IL SB0407

Creates the Commission on Police Professionalism to review law enforcement performance standards, training, certification processes, and officer conduct in the 21st century.

Establishes a 17-member commission composed of state legislators, active duty law enforcement officers from certified bargaining units, law enforcement agency leaders, and representatives from statewide law enforcement organizations.

Designates the Department of State Police to provide administrative support to the Commission and requires it to meet regularly to review use of force policies, officer-involved shooting investigations, misconduct standards, and whether officers should be licensed.

Commission must submit findings and legislative recommendations to the General Assembly and Governor by September 30, 2018.

Section is repealed on July 1, 2019.
