SB0685 Summary

• Adds new subsection (a-5) to Section 4-2001 allowing county boards to provide additional salary for State's Attorneys beyond the base salary prescribed in subsection (a), payable from county treasury.

• Within 90 days of the act's effective date, county boards may adopt a resolution or ordinance for additional State's Attorney salary to take immediate effect; subsequent changes become effective at the beginning of the next term at least 180 days after adoption.

• Requires county boards to authorize an additional salary increase for full-time Public Defenders equal to at least 90% of any additional salary provided to the State's Attorney under the same terms and timeline.

• Adds similar provisions to Section 3-9012 requiring each county board to approve by resolution or ordinance any provision for additional State's Attorney salary for multi-county districts, apportioned based on county population.

• Applies the same Public Defender additional salary requirements to multi-county public defender offices, with each county board approving provisions consistent with their joint resolution for paying the Public Defender.
