Licensees and applicants seeking expedited licensure through interstate compacts (including the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Act) who designate Illinois as their principal state must submit fingerprints electronically to the Department of State Police for criminal history record checks.

Fingerprints are checked against both Department of State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal history databases.

The Department of State Police charges applicants or licensees a fee for the criminal history records check (not to exceed actual cost), deposited into the State Police Services Fund, and applicants may be charged a separate fingerprinting fee by the Department or an approved vendor.

The Department may allow alternative fingerprinting methods for applicants without reasonable access to designated vendors and may adopt necessary rules for implementation.

Communication between the Department and interstate compact governing bodies cannot include Federal Bureau of Investigation information related to criminal history records checks.
