IL SB1293

Amends the Illinois Municipal Code to create a Water Infrastructure Grants program requiring the City of Chicago to distribute up to $3,000,000 annually from casino revenue to eligible municipalities for water infrastructure projects.

Eligible municipalities must pay more than $7,000,000 annually to purchase water wholesale from an out-of-state supplier, have not purchased water from Chicago in the 2 years prior to the bill's effective date, and cannot contain a riverboat or casino.

Beginning 2 years after Senate Bill 7's effective date, eligibility requirements are modified to remove the requirement that municipalities purchase at least 75% of their water from Chicago.

Defines "water infrastructure" as facilities and improvements whose primary purpose is to pump, divert, transport, store, treat, or deliver water, including associated planning, construction, and debt service costs.

Excludes from grant eligibility any municipality that is part of a joint agreement or group action with other municipalities for obtaining or treating water.
