IL SB1482

Amends the Education for Homeless Children Act to authorize the State Board of Education to establish rules limiting the duration and extent of transportation agreements for homeless children attending their school of origin after moving to another school district.

Requires parents or guardians of homeless children to make good faith efforts to provide or arrange transportation to the school of origin, including through relatives, friends, or homeless assistance programs.

When a homeless child moves to a different school district but continues attending their original school, the two school districts must meet to apportion transportation responsibility and costs, or share costs equally if they cannot agree.

Allows parents, teachers, and school principals to meet and evaluate whether continued travel to the school of origin is in the child's best interest, particularly when travel time exceeds one hour each way.

Maintains existing requirements under Article 29 of the School Code for transportation when a homeless child remains in the school district of origin.
