• Reduces the deadline for schools to provide access to student records from 15 school days to 10 business days after receiving a request.

• Allows school districts to extend the response deadline by up to 5 additional business days for reasons including records stored at other locations, substantial number of records requested, extensive searches required, or operational burden.

• Permits the requesting party and school district to mutually agree in writing to extend the compliance period without treating previous missed deadlines as a denial.

• Protects school employees from adverse employment action or discrimination for protecting communications as privileged or confidential under state or federal law.
