IL SB1496

Amends the Circuit Courts Act to require the General Assembly to redraw the boundaries of Cook County Circuit Court subcircuits in the year following each federal decennial census to reflect updated population data.

Maintains the existing structure of 15 subcircuits in Cook County, each to be compact, contiguous, and substantially equal in population.

Establishes that 165 resident judges will be elected from Cook County Circuit, with 11 judges elected from each of the 15 subcircuits.

Requires resident judges elected from a subcircuit to maintain residency in that subcircuit; judges elected after January 1, 2008 must retain voter registration in their subcircuit to run for retention at-large.
