IL SB1604

Removes the Pharmacy Practice Act from the acts scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2018, and adds it instead to the acts repealed on January 1, 2020.

Allows pharmacists to substitute a brand name drug for an unavailable generic drug if the prescriber does not prohibit substitution.

Requires pharmacists to dispense brand name substitutes at the lower unit price of the originally prescribed drug if the substitute costs more.

Maintains existing requirements for FDA therapeutic equivalency, manufacturer notifications to the Department of Public Health, and prescriber handwritten notation to prohibit substitution.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
