IL SB1715

Extends the statute of limitations for prosecuting public officers or employees for misconduct in office from 1 year to 2 years after discovery of the offense by a person with a legal duty to report it.

Increases the maximum extension period for misconduct in office prosecutions from 3 years to 4 years beyond the otherwise applicable limitations period.

Applies the extended timeline to cases where the proper prosecuting officer becomes aware of the offense in the absence of discovery by a reporting person.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
