IL SB1739

Amends the Minority Teachers of Illinois scholarship program to allow students already licensed to teach to pursue additional teaching endorsements or master's degrees in their teaching field, in addition to initial teacher licensure programs.

Replaces the term "certification" with "licensure" throughout the statute to align with current teacher credentialing terminology.

Removes the restriction limiting scholarship use to undergraduate students only, allowing funds to support graduate-level teacher education programs.

Maintains existing scholarship parameters including annual maximum of $5,000, 8-semester/12-quarter eligibility limit, requirement to teach at schools with at least 30% minority enrollment, and 30% fund reservation for male minority applicants.

Takes effect June 1, 2018.
