IL SB1843

Creates the Commission on Police Professionalism composed of 17 members including state legislators, active duty law enforcement officers from certified collective bargaining units, state police director, Chicago police superintendent, and representatives from statewide law enforcement organizations.

Commission shall review law enforcement training and certification processes, officer duties, badge and identification standards, officer-involved shooting investigation policies, use of force policies, and whether law enforcement officers should be licensed.

Commission must submit findings and legislative recommendations to the General Assembly and Governor by September 30, 2018, and the commission is repealed on December 31, 2018.

Amends the State's Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor's Act to allow the Office to assist County State's Attorneys in cases under drug and labor relations laws regardless of county population restrictions, and to act as Special Prosecutor when appointed by a court.

Takes effect upon becoming law.
