SB1877 Summary

• Eliminates the prohibition on carrying concealed firearms in public parks, athletic areas, and athletic facilities under the control of municipalities or park districts by striking subsection (a)(13).

• Maintains prohibitions on carrying concealed firearms in schools, child care facilities, government buildings, courts, detention facilities, hospitals, public transportation, alcohol-serving establishments, universities, stadiums, libraries, airports, and other specified locations.

• Permits private property owners to prohibit concealed firearms by posting required signage (4 inches by 6 inches) at building or property entrances, except for private residences.

• Allows licensees to store firearms in locked cases or containers within vehicles in prohibited parking areas and to briefly carry firearms while accessing vehicles for storage or retrieval purposes.

• Permits colleges and universities to regulate firearm storage in campus vehicles, establish discipline policies, and authorize firearms for military science, law enforcement training programs, and designated hunting or target shooting areas.
