• Pet shop operators must microchip all dogs and cats prior to sale and disclose the microchip information to purchasers, including the option to list the pet store as a secondary contact.

• Animal shelters and animal control facilities must scan impounded dogs and cats for microchips within 24 hours of intake, attempt to contact owners using microchip information, and rescan before transferring or euthanizing animals.

• Pet shop operators must maintain records verifying compliance with sourcing requirements for 2 years and keep detailed sales disclosures on file for 2 years.
