IL SB1968

Amends the Public Community College Act to clarify that appointed successors to board vacancies serve "to serve the remainder of the unexpired term" rather than an indefinite period until the next regular election.

Specifies that if a vacancy occurs within 4 months before a scheduled consolidated election and the vacating member's term was not scheduled to expire at that election, the appointed member's term extends through that election and until the succeeding consolidated election.

Modifies Section 3-10 to clarify the vice-chairman's duties when there is a vacancy in the chairman's office or in case of the chairman's absence or inability to act.

Establishes that a chairman pro tempore shall be appointed by the board if both the chairman and vice-chairman are absent from any meeting or refuse to perform their duties.

Takes effect upon becoming law.
