IL SB1995

Amends the Illinois Insurance Code to require group and individual accident and health insurance policies and managed care plans to cover the purchase of service dogs when amended, delivered, issued, or renewed after the effective date of the Act.

Covers service dogs specially trained to assist blind, deaf, mobility impaired persons, or persons with non-physical disabilities including anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Requires written certification from the insured's treating health care provider that the service dog is medically necessary for coverage to apply.

Mandates that service dogs must be purchased from nonprofit organizations established for dog training that hold accredited membership in a professional association of guide dog or service dog organizations.
