Board authority to order political committees to conduct audits of financial records to ensure compliance with contribution limitations and reporting requirements.

Board may order audits for discrepancies between reporting periods, failure to account for investments or loans, or mismatched reporting between committees, but requires willful or patterned inaccurate reporting for the latter reason.

Board shall randomly select no more than 3% of registered political committees annually for audits using a standard scientific method ensuring equal selection probability.

Audited committees must deliver certified audit results within 60 calendar days covering the 2-year period from the close of the most recent reporting period, with minimum 5-year exemption from random selection after compliance.

Failure to timely deliver audit results is punishable by $250 per day fine up to maximum $5,000; Board may not disclose audit information unless violations found and fines imposed.
