IL SB2252

Establishes preference in Illinois State Police hiring for children, grandchildren, and siblings of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, in addition to existing military service preference.

Defines "law enforcement officer" for purposes of line of duty preference as any person employed by state, county, municipal, or other government entities primarily responsible for crime prevention and law enforcement.

Requires applicants to meet standard qualifications including U.S. citizenship, good moral character, no criminal record, and passing mental and physical examinations.

Exempts military veterans from collegiate education requirements if they have honorably served with specific combat-related medals or 3+ years of active duty with honorable discharge.

Establishes a 12-month probationary period for all appointees, with Director discretion to extend up to 6 additional months.
