• Private detectives must complete 12 continuing education hours annually (36-month pre-renewal period), while registered private detective employees must complete 9 hours annually, with 30 and 24 hours respectively required for the 2020 renewal only.

• Continuing education requirements do not apply to licensees with inactive licenses or those active 180 days or less, and exemptions are provided for those serving in armed forces, as elected officials, as Department employees, or admitted to practice law.

• Approved continuing education may be earned through Board-approved courses and instructors, accredited colleges/universities, professional associations, out-of-state programs, and teaching approved courses (with 1 hour of teaching equal to 3 hours of credit), limited to 6 hours per calendar day.

• Licensees must maintain continuing education logs and proof of attendance, designate a primary profession on renewal, take two-thirds of hours in their primary profession, and those reinstating licenses must provide 15 hours of continuing education documentation before license issuance.

• Department may conduct random audits for compliance; failure to submit documentation within 60 days of deficiency notice constitutes evidence of fraud or misrepresentation and triggers disciplinary proceedings.
