IL SB2482

Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to require school buses transporting passengers over 18 years of age (not in school or religious organization activities) to have "SCHOOL BUS" signs covered or concealed and stop signal arms rendered inoperable.

Requires recipients of discarded school buses from school districts, religious organizations, or school bus vendors to immediately remove or conceal all school bus markings, render the stop signal arm and flashing system inoperable, and repaint the bus a different color.

Expands Section 12-806a to allow buses meeting school bus specifications to transport persons 18 years of age or less for purposes outside of school activities, including youth camps, child care facilities, and community-based rehabilitation facilities.

Requires buses meeting full school bus specifications used for expanded transportation purposes to be operated by drivers with valid school bus permits or by permit holders supervising new drivers in training.

Removes the restriction limiting bus use to only youth camps and child care facilities, broadening eligible uses to include community-based rehabilitation facilities accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
