SB2489 Summary

• Department of Public Health shall develop and distribute a free brochure educating the public on concussion effects in children and warning signs, available to any child or parent regardless of whether the concussion occurred during interscholastic athletics.

• Regional office of education (rather than district superintendent or charter school administrator) shall supervise athletic trainers and other persons responsible for compliance with return-to-play and return-to-learn concussion protocols.

• State Board of Education shall (rather than may) adopt rules governing concussion protocol, including rules for informal or formal accommodations of students who may have sustained a concussion during interscholastic athletic activities.
